Reading Max the Brave took us back to our roots, when years ago we first started to read and beg our parents to come and tell us just one more bedtime story.

Ed is also a painter, working from his studio in East London and is represented by galleries in London and Los Angeles. Yet, it is so interactive and enabled me to have a lovely discussion with my sister about bravery and animals. There's one particular part (no spoilers here - but there's one almost black page, followed by a very colourful couple of pages) that my wee guy loves to read again and again, with excellent opportunities for fun sound effects.

We also supply the children and their carer with care packages of essential and luxury items to try and brighten their day. Payments made using National Book Tokens are processed by National Book Tokens Ltd, and you can read their Terms and Conditions here. This is such a great series for allowing the reader to know and understand something that the main character does not. Facebook sets this cookie to show relevant advertisements to users by tracking user behaviour across the web, on sites that have Facebook pixel or Facebook social plugin.Max the Brave has adorable illustrations and a fun read-aloud story that will have young readers laughing and coming back for more. Max the Brave' will be given free to over 600,000 children aged 3 to 4 in the UK thanks to the wonderful children's literacy charity , Booktrust. Recommended to younger children who love cats, or to anyone looking for humorous picture-books with a super-hero and/or feline theme. Max’s black coat really stands out against the solid backgrounds of color—red, yellow, blue, and green pages pull readers in with brightness and cheer. This hilarious new picture book from the phenomenally-talented Ed Vere introduces a new and lovable character, with Ed’s trademark bold illustrations and clever story.

When Max finally confronts the monster, he realizes that being Max the Brave may not be as great as he thought. The only mild complaint I have is that most of the kids this is written for won't know what the phrase, "not all it's cracked up to be" means.

The New York Times - 'Max is an expressive huge-eyed black ball of kinetic kittenness who pops against each page’s bright, differently colored background.

Max the Brave could help initiate a discussion of how to tell if someone is trustworthy and about being careful what you wish for.

Max is a cat who is trying to be more brave and catch a mouse — the thing is, he doesn’t know what a mouse looks like. The Max The Brave Fund put together special birthday/milestone packages for children fighting cancer, when the little warriors are too poorly to make it home. I generally don't mind teaching my kids new terms and phrases, but this one felt out of place for the audience. As well as being named one of The Sunday Times's '100 Modern Children's Classics', Max was long listed for the Kate Greenaway medal and is published in over 15 languages.
